We are no longer regularly posting our rides here as we now use SPOND to communicate rides with members
We typically have at least 2 or 3 a week. Below are some typical ride reports to give a flavour of what we do.
We have rides from about 10miles to 35 and will be introducing more variety over time to meet the groups interests.
To find out if we are the right group for you to ride with please contact us.
As of October we have established regular rides the most popular being Sunday and Thursday Morning (shorter and less vigorous) but increasingly we have had rides on Tuesdays and Fridays as well. Many others will occur as and when Ride leaders plan them sometimes at short notice. We have had a dozen evening social rides with a Pub at the end during the summer months !
Some thoughts on cycling for the mature person, a NY Times article.
Look on our Facebook Page for more reports of our exploits or future Events
We had a stall at the Eco-Fair it was a great success with many visitors and lots of our members in their new T-Shirts
PUAD proper was CANCELLED BUT
A number of the group went out and tackled Harvesting Lane, making their personal contributions to local charities.
We do hope the event will be better supported next year.
8 riders set off on a very sunny spring morning for a lap of the Longmoor and Woolmer ranges. 5 buddies met in Sheet and also met another rider who was passing by and stopped to chat and ask about the group. As she was going to Liss herself we all went up together and chatted along the way.
Meeting a couple more riders from the group at the old railway in Liss we all headed up towards Longmoor, where we were really pleased our new friend decided to stay with us and tag along for the ride around the ranges, rather than head off on her own ride by herself.
The ranges were busy with many people out walking, jogging etc, we saw horse riders and even army cadets on a weekend expedition. The ground was really solid which made for some truly bone shaking & teeth rattling descents. They had evidently been filling in some of the larger potholes in the tracks with more gravel etc which in turn made it a lot more even but very dusty and difficult to maintain traction in places with a lot of lose stones. Still we all made it round safely in one piece with all teeth present.
Returning down the railway track it was into the Turtle Bean for refreshments where we all enjoyed the extremely delicious coffee, cake, bacon & sausage rolls etc.
A great 20 mile ride out today, with good company and hopefully a new member joining us very soon and looking to become a regular with the Thursday ride crew.
It was a little less chilly today as we set off from the Heath, 9 riders on a mission for Coffee, we did the usual slog up Nursted Rocks luckily without too much traffic then off down the lovely quiet lanes toward our goal.
There is a fabulous new Owl wood carving to look out for next time you are on Bohemia Hollow leaving South Harting!
At Nyewood we rang one members doorbell and ran off, but he found us at Rachels great Café at Rother valley farm. I think Stanley might move in !
After a very acceptable coffee, chat, and Bacon butties we proceeded along Dumpford lane with a more chilly headwind thence to Elsted Marsh and Elsted, South Harting and home.
12 riders set off on an overcast morning for what would prove to be a real lung-buster of a set of hill climbs.
Heading off from Sheet we headed for Steep, climbing the hill to the church without too much trouble, hill 1 done.
From Steep it was along to Mill Lane, heading down passing the waterfall which was in full flow rather than the steadier trickle normally seen, then the steady climb up to Wheatham hill, hill 2 done, not quite so far so good as one rider had to stop briefly to put their chain back on.
After Wheatham Hill it was along past Barefoots Farm and towards Hawkley and a rather evil climb up Hill 3!
After a suitable rest at the top it was a gentler ride round to Lower Green and towards Empshott and the final hill, which didn’t seem too bad until a sharp descent followed by an equally steep rise the other side gave some weary legs a final workout!
After a final rest it was a fairly flat ride into Empshott and across the Selbourne Road, past Bradshott Farm and to Sotherington Lane taking us to the familiar sights of Blackmoor and Whitehill.
Heading up Hogmoor Lane we turned into the Hogmoor enclosure for much needed coffee!
The return to Sheet was far less eventful (apart from some light rain) and much easier on the legs taking in the familiar route along the woodland path past Woolmer Range, across to Greatham and along to Liss Forest, before heading up Warren Road and down past The Mint, before heading to the Triangle Centre in Liss, then along the cycle way back to Sheet.
A shorter ride today that very much lived up to its challenge of a hilly ride to Hogmoor!
In total approx 21 miles with 1383ft of total climb with a max elevation of 511ft, all completed in the first hour of the ride, a record for PBB!
Well done to everyone who took part, you should be justly proud of yourselves!
Jethro from Hepworth Cycles ran a series of Big Bike Revival events to help get members more familiar with the workings of their bikes and how to fix the inevitable punctures we all get from time to time.
27 members are now much more confident with the workings of their bikes

PBB members supported the Petersfield Ups and Downs Charity cycle ride on Sept 12th.
We had 13 members riding and Wendy looked after the stall where we greeted new potential members and handed out our bright new HiViz Vests some did the 20mile others the 30 mile route, one cycled the 5m family ride with her children. Two Members sadly were isolating and one had a sick bike.
Wendy talked to Petersfield's Shine Radio about our project and other aspects of local cycling (click to listen)
